Singing transforms breath into beauty. This transformation is mysterious, but the process need not be. As a voice instructor, I assist singers to develop a solid foundation based upon the principles of healthy singing. These principles include posture, breath management, resonance, and articulation. When this foundation is established, the possibilities of artistic communication and personal expression are limitless.
I believe the singing voice is most appealing when it functions as an extension of one’s own speaking voice. It is the uniqueness of the sound that makes it beautiful. Each student brings their own sense of aesthetics and personality to their singing; therefore, the training of the voice must also be individualized.
In my studio, I create a warm environment of trust, enthusiasm, and respect. I encourage experimentation within this safe space to discover one’s own capabilities. It is important that a student understands the material which I am teaching. Although I primarily describe technique in anatomical and physiological terms, I can adapt my teaching style to clarify a topic to accommodate their learning styles.
My method of singing is suitable for all levels of experience and for most styles of music. If the singer is committed to developing their voice to its fullest potential, I can help them achieve their goals and inspire confidence in their singing.
